A Sad Day for the Bulldog Nation

Last Friday, the UGA family lost one of it's most beloved members - UGA VI. UGA VI was the pride of the University's athletics and an icon for the Athens area. UGA VI has been mascot for Bulldogs for the last 9 seasons.

Savannah attorney, Frank W. "Sonny"Seiller said of the most famous mascot, "He was a good one. What can I say. He had a marvelous record. He was a very strong and healthy dog. He was the biggest of all the dogs, and he had the biggest heart."

The successor to UGA VI is being kept a secret but the perks are very well known. Along with being one of the most beloved dogs in the state of Georgia, UGA VII will also have an air-conditioned dog house and travel provided by Delta to all away games among other gifts.

UGA VI will buried at Sanford Stadium today at 3:30pm in private ceremony.

3 Ways to Lower Gas Prices

Democrats Have Gone Too Far!!

The Dems have just about guaranteed a loss in the South with their latest decision. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the Dems have forbidden fired food from the menu during the Democratic national convention to be held in Denver, CO.

You would think that with all this unity talk they would do anything to bring the South back in the fold. The Dems have pretty much abandoned the South when it comes to Presidential politics and this won't help matters any. I mean, how can you sit down with anyone and discuss politics without a glass of ice cold sweet tea and some fired chicken? No fried fish, fired green tomatoes nothing - so much for unity.

Other things they are trying to do with the menu is make it colorful. The guidelines put forth by the DNC is to have at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, purple/blue and white. I don't know what they plan on eating but I can't imagine something purple that would even taste good without being fried.

Sisters Picketing for Losing Cable

The high gas prices are hitting everywhere in a family's budget. Two sisters in Salt Lake City, UT are now taking matters in their hands. Once their parents cut cable these two went into action. They began to picket!

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, "Sadie, 9, and her sister Pyper, 7, marched around downtown Salt Lake City chanting, 'Lower gas prices,' while carrying homemade signs." Sadie said, "Gas prices are too high... I just decided to come and protest so they'd go down." The sisters were inspired by their parents with former Mayor of Salt Lake City Rocky Anderson. Their father said that he was proud of his daughters.

What are you doing to help with the rising fuel costs? Is your family behind you in this decision and do your children understand why these things have to be?

The Jody Hice Radio Show

WRAF and Toccoa Falls Radio will begin a new partnership with Let Freedom Ring Ministries. The Jody Hice Radio Show will air weekday afternoons at 3:30.

Dr. Jody Hice,a native of Atlanta, Georgia, has served as Senior Pastor of Bethlehem First Baptist Church for the past ten years – a congregation recognized as being one of the fastest growing in the state. The church operates a Christian Academy for children K-10. While fulfilling his responsibilitites as Senion Pastor, Dr. Hice has always been involved in local issues that threaten the rights of individuals and religious liberties.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Fort Worth, TX, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Hice served as the First Vice President of the Georgia Baptist Convention in 2004-05, is an Adjunct Professor at Luther Rice Seminary and serves on the Advisory/Accountability Boards of Unlimited Potential, Inc., a ministry to professional athletes. He currently serves as President of Ten Commandments of Georgia, Inc., and is author of the book, Deeper Than Water. He and his wife, Dee Dee, have two daughters.

The goal of the program is one of education, informing the public about the current issues that threaten our nation’s Judeo-Christian values and foundation. Most likely, the issues and events discussed is news to the listener simply because the Media chooses to ignore them or gives very little information.

According to Jody, "It's a fact, communicating information empowers people to the point they can become intelligently involvement in the many issues if they wish -- helping restore America to her historic Godly heritage and moral base.

"Let Freedom Ring Ministries wishes to do what it can to add another positive voice in the growing crusade to return the United States and its culture to the foundations upon which our country was originally built. "

Tune in to Toccoa Falls Radio Monday through Friday afternoons at 3:30 for this unique look at our culture.

NRB '09 Looking Great!

Got back yesterday from Nashville, TN and the NRB Leadership Meetings. We spent all day Thursday and most of the day on Friday discussing the radio track for NRB '09 and let me tell you next year's convention is going to be great!

Topics that will be discussed in education sessions will range from localism to Web2.0 strategies to non-traditional revenue sources for both commercial and non-commercial stations. There will be something for everyone.

The Radio Reception, which takes place on the Saturday evening of the convention. Will be one that you will not want to miss. We will be working with KMA again this year and will be offering more to those that will be attending this fun-packed evening that you are not going to want to miss.

All in all, NRB '09 will be a time of reconnecting with old friends, making new ones and learning the newest ways to make your ministry or broadcast operation have a stronger impact in your comunity.

A Week in Nashville

This week my son and I will be in Nashville, TN and staying at the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. This is going to be a great week with my son. It was probably the best Father's Day gift I could have received. I almost teared up when he came to me last week and asked if he could come with me.

It you haven't been to the Opryland Resort I urge you to make a trip. This is one of those places where you don't even need to leave the hotel. There is plenty to see a do in the Nashville area if you feel you need to breathe some real air.

This week, I will be working with other members of the NRB Radio Committee in developing thetion radio track for next year's convention. This is a big job since the largest number of attendees to the convention are radio personnel. I will be working on the radio reception which is the first event of the convention and really sets the tone for the whole convention.

These are important meetings and I have already felt some attack from the Enemy. Pray that this week will be profitable. Follow me on Twitter for regular updates.

Attitude

Yesterday was a pretty hard day. I knew it was going to be a long one because I chose it to be that way. Each morning I have the opportunity to dictate whether or not I will have a good day by deciding what my attitude will be. Yesterday morning, as I was driving in to work, I got angry with a fellow traveler of the morning commute because he didn't move fast enough through an intersection. I allowed that situation to dictate the rest of my day.

The older I get the more I realize that the most important decision I make each day is my choice of attitude. I realize more and more that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I choose to respond to it.

My choice of attitude is more important than yesterday, my successes and failures, how much money I have, what my title is, how much education I have, what other people may think of me or say about me. My choice of attitude will either energize me for the day ahead or kill my hopes and dreams. When my attitude is right there is nothing that I cannot do, there is nothing that will keep me from reaching my goals.

Gas Sense

Last Friday the cost of a barrel of oil went up over $138 - a $10 increase in one day. If you haven't seen $4 per gallon gas yet you soon will. What can we do to keep from having to take out a second mortgage on the house to pay for our monthly fuel bill. In my Memorial Day Weekend post I gave some tips to help you with fuel shock but here are some additional thoughts on saving gas:
  1. Limit your trips - make a game plan for your day so that you can get more done in one trip then having to make multiple trips.
  2. Ask your employer to consider a 4 day work week - staying home one day a week might give you the needed break in your fuel costs.
  3. If you can't get that one day off during the work week try taking one of the weekend days off - don't move your cars on either Saturday or Sunday.
Let me know how you are saving money at the fuel pump.

Still Much Work to be Done

As I was scurrying the net for news stories to use on this morning's show I came across this picture and it reminded me that there are there still many people around the world who have never heard the Gospel of Christ. This picture, taken by a photographer from FUNAI - a government agency dedicated to the protection of indigenous tribes, reminds me of pictures taken by Nate Saint and the missionaries who were martyred by the Auca Indians. We still have so much work to do. God loves these people and desires to know them as His children.

There are days...

Mark Driscoll is founder of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA. His style in this video is the way I feel sometimes when I see "Followers" of Christ just mess things up. I wish I could rant like him and get away with it. Thanks Mark for ranting and raving for me...

Are You in a Lion's Den?

You know, the last several days I've been trying to develop a post for this blog and I haven't been able to come up with anything. Last night as I was trying to empty my mind and get ready for a, hopefully, peaceful nights rest the I was reminded of a message I delivered to the students at Toccoa Falls College a few weeks ago. The message was about the last year or so of my life and the lessons I learned during, what seemed to me to be a "dessert" time.

At the end of my message I showed the students a picture that a few of my friends at In Touch Ministries had in their offices. This picture was given to them by Dr. Stanley, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Atlanta and teacher on the In Touch radio and television program. Below is that picture.

When I first saw this picture I really didn't think much about it. It kind of reminded me of a Sunday school picture used when I was a kid. But the more I looked at it the more something in me said there was something unique about the picture. What was it? What is it about this picture of Daniel that I had to just keep looking. Then it came to me. Daniel had his back TO the lions. Are you kidding me!?!? Why would anyone have their back to man-eating lions? These cats could just taste Daniel and they were waiting for the right moment to pounce.

But if you look at Daniel and the look on his face you don't see fear or desperation or any of the other emotions you would normally have when you are about to be eaten alive. No, you see confidence and security. Daniel is looking up to where his security truly comes from and that has given him peace.

So let me ask you - what lion's den are you in today? Is it financial? Is it relational? Is it occupational? Whatever situation you are in don't look at the problem and be fearful. Look to God for the strength and peace you need to ride out your time in the den. Our Father will not dessert you and will provide a way out of your situation. That is what I need to remind myself of - I am secure in Him.

Lord, Save Us from Your Followers

Are you kidding me!?! Do churches today still think this is an effective way of reaching a lost world for Christ? I thought I was okay but look at the fourth one down... sports fans?
