An "expert in the law" once asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life, in reply, Jesus referred to what was written in the Law - to "love your neighbor as yourself." The next logical question is , "Who is my neighbor?" Instead of giving a huge list of those who are his neighbor, Jesus tells the story of a Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).
Dr. Wayne "Coach" Gordon, 2011 recipient of The Wilberforce Award and pastor of Lawndale Community Church in Chicago, has asked that very question for the last 20 years. He and his wife of 33 years have worked in the tough Lawndale community trying share the love of Christ to those that are hurting, broken and very much different than the Gordon's.
For nearly 36 years, Coach Gordon has lived out the parable of the Good Samaritan, and through those experiences he has written the Who is My Neighbor. I had the chance to talk with Coach about his ministry and his book, and below you will find clips from that conversation.
